Be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
Languages of the UK (Amendment)(Repeal) Bill
A Bill to repeal the Languages of the UK (Amendment) Act 2021, to protect speakers of minority languages in Northern Ireland against discrimination, to extend the measures of the Languages of the UK Act 2020 to Northern Ireland, to give Northern Ireland Sign Language statutory recognision as an official language, and for connected purposes
1 Repeal of the Languages of the UK (Amendment) Act 2021
- The Languages of the UK (Amendment) Act 2021 is hereby repealed
2 Amendments and Subsequential Amendments to the Languages of the UK Act 2020
- Part 4, Section 1 is substituted to read:
This act applies to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
- Insert after Cornish in Part 1, chapter 2:
Northern Ireland Sign Language
- Part 2, insert new section 5 after section 4 as follows:
Section 4, subsection (a) only extends to Northern Ireland as far as expressed consent has been granted by the Northern Ireland Assembly.
3 Short title, commencement, and extent
- This Act may be cited as the Languages of the UK (Amendment)(Repeal) Act 2022.
- This Act extends to the entire United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
- This Act comes into force upon receiving royal assent.
