Be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

2022 November 9: As enacted

1 Definitions

  1. For the purposes of this Act, "deposit" refers to:
    1. the £500 deposit paid by a candidate for the standing of elections to:
      1. the House of Commons
      2. the Scottish Parliament
      3. the Senedd
      4. the Northern Ireland Assembly
      5. the London Assembly
      6. English and Welsh executive mayoralties
    2. the £5000 deposit paid by a candidate for the standing of elections to:
      1. the Police and Crime Commission of England and Wales
      2. English and Welsh combined authority mayoralties
    3. the £10000 deposit paid by a candidate for the standing of elections to the Mayoralty of London

2 Abolishment

  1. The requirement of every deposit hitherto mentioned shall be removed from every election hitherto mentioned for all stood candidates.
  2. To be included on the ballot, any candidate must present a signed notice of candidacy with signatures from 2 registered voters in whatsoever constituency or race that pertains to that office.
  3. Subsection (2) only applies to-
    1. general elections, and
    2. mayoral elections within England.

3 Short title, commencement, and extent

  1. This act extend to United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
  2. This act may be cited as the Deposit Abolition Act 2022
  3. The rest of this act comes into force upon royal assent.
