Be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

Definitions

  1. In this Act— Hostile architecture refers to any physical architecture designed so as to prevent homeless people from using it, including but not limited to the addition of spikes to underpasses and the installation of handles across the middle of benches.

2 The ending of hostile architecture

  1. All local councils must remove all hostile architecture on council-controlled property by 1 January 2023.
  2. All local councils are forbidden from constructing any additional hostile architecture from the date of this bill's commencing on 1 April 2022.
  3. In the event of a given council failing to remove such architecture by 1 January 2023, they are liable to pay £50 per day from then onwards to any homeless person who is negatively affected by said hostile architecture.

3 Short title, commencement and extent

  1. This Act may be cited as the Ending Hostile Architecture Act 2022.
  2. This act comes into force upon achieving 1 April 2022.
  3. This act extends to the United Kingdom.
